La neige visuelle est un trouble neurologique peu connu : c’est un
grain permanent sur tout le champ de vision, souvent accompagné de
scintillements, de halos, d’images qui persistent après avoir détourné
les yeux. On l’a, ou on ne l’a pas (et ceux qui l’ont mettent souvent
des années à comprendre que les autres ne voient pas comme eux).
Neige est une série de portraits photographiques de personnes
atteintes du syndrome, au Québec, faite avec elles. Chaque portrait
commence par une entrevue : comment la neige est apparue, ce
qu’elle fait à un mur blanc ou à un ciel de nuit. Le témoignage devient
une partie de l’image alors que nous essayons de reconstruire les
symptômes de la personne.
Un premier extrait du projet, Neige de nuit, sera présenté au
festival MAPP MTL (10e édition) le 1er octobre
2026, au skatepark Van Horne, à Montréal.
Le projet est en cours. Les portraits et les témoignages complets seront
publiés ici au fil du projet.
Visual snow is a little-known neurological condition: a permanent grain
across the whole field of vision, often with flicker, halos, and images
that linger after you look away. You either have it or you don’t, and
the people who do often take years to realize that others don’t see the
way they do.
Neige is a series of photographic portraits of people with the
syndrome, in Quebec, made with them. Each portrait begins with an
interview: how the snow appeared, what it changes, what it does to a
white wall or a night sky. The testimony becomes part of the image.
A first excerpt from the project, Neige de nuit, will be shown
at the MAPP MTL festival (10th edition) on October 1, 2026, at the Van
Horne skatepark in Montreal.
The project is ongoing. Portraits and full testimonies will be published
here as they are shot.
Participer
Je cherche des personnes qui vivent avec la neige visuelle, partout au Québec, pour :
- une entrevue d’environ une heure, en personne ou par appel vidéo, dont la voix est enregistrée ;
- plus tard, une séance de portrait en personne, à l’endroit qui vous convient (je me déplace).
Il n’y a aucun prérequis. Pas besoin de diagnostic officiel, ou d’aimer être pris en photo. La participation est bénévole ; mes déplacements sont à ma charge.
Vous relirez votre témoignage avant toute publication. Un formulaire de consentement signé avant l’entrevue, précise clairement où et comment les images et la voix sont utilisées.

I’m looking for people living with visual snow, anywhere in Quebec, for:
- an interview of about an hour, in person or by video call, in French or English, with the voice recorded;
- later, an in-person portrait session, wherever suits you (I’ll travel).
There are no prerequisites. No official diagnosis needed, no need to enjoy being photographed. Participation is voluntary; travel is at my expense.
You review your testimony before anything is published. A consent form, signed before the interview, spells out exactly where and how the images and voice are used.

Didier Guyaux est photographe à Montréal. Il vit lui-même avec la neige visuelle. Formé au CFP Lachine (DEP en photographie), il y a été artiste en résidence en 2025 ; finaliste FAPA 2025 en photographie conceptuelle ; expositions collectives à Paris et Vancouver en 2026.
